Abstract (EN)
University years are one of the important milestones in human life. Due to the university, the city in which people live and the changes in the friend environment create changes in the social and inner lives of the people. In addition to these, individuals have to struggle with various difficulties and may have to adapt. At this point, it is thought that cognitive flexibility and emotional intelligence are important factors of students' adaptation process, and as a result, these two factors affect students' psychological well-being processes. It is thought that students' ability to effectively manage their emotions and cognitions in this challenging and uncertain life period will positively affect their psychological well-being. The study was carried out in line with this point of view and for this purpose. The study group consists of 322 students studying at universities in various provinces in Turkey. The data were collected through Google forms in the 2022-2023 academic season, and the data were collected with the "Emotional Intelligence Feature Scale", "Psychological Well-Being Scale" and "Cognitive Flexibility Scale". The relationship between students emotional intelligence and cognitive flexibility and psychological well-being levels was analyzed with the SPSS package program. As a result of the analyzes made, it was found that the emotional intelligence, psychological well-being and cognitive flexibility levels of university students did not differ according to gender, while emotional intelligence levels did not differ according to the grade levels, however, it was found that cognitive flexibility and psychological well-being levels differed significantly in terms of class levels, and both cognitive flexibility and psychological well-being levels of students attending from the second year were higher than those attending from the first year. While there was no difference between the cognitive flexibility and emotional intelligence scores of the students in terms of socio-economic level, when the psychological well-being scores of the students were analyzed, it was concluded that the level of psychological well-being increased as the students' welfare levels increased. When the relationship levels between emotional intelligence, cognitive flexibility and psychological well-being of the students are examined, a moderate relationship was found between emotional intelligence and psychological well-being levels, and a moderate relationship between cognitive flexibility and psychological well-being levels. According to the regression analysis, the scores of students on emotional intelligence and cognitive flexibility scales explain their psychological well-being levels by 56%. From this point of view, it is thought that the ability of students to manage their cognitions and emotions plays a key role in evaluating their lives as meaningful and value-laden, in overcoming this challenging period. It is thought that this study will make important contributions to the literature of the field in understanding the perspectives of university students on life and the way they deal with the problems they encounter, and in developing coping strategies.
