Abstract (EN)

First aid refers to all practices that are performed with the help of medical materials available at the incident scene without any medical device and medication to save the lives of patients or injured persons or prevent deterioration of their current condition until assistance is provided by the healthcare professionals when a person's life is in danger in cases such as any disease, injury or accident. This study was conducted to measure the efficiency of first aid training given to 8-to-11-year-old children. Sample group of the study, which was designed as pretest-posttest semi-experimental study in a single group, consisted of 131 students between the ages of 8-11 who are studying at Van Competition Authority Primary School affiliated with the Van Provincial Directorate of National Education. First aid training was given theoretically and practically by role-playing with a clown. The data were collected using Introductory Information Form, First Aid Information Form and First Aid Practices Skill Evaluation Form. In the evaluation of data, descriptive statistics were expressed as Mean, Standard Deviation, Minimum and Maximum, the Pearson correlation coefficients were used to determine the relationship between continuous variables, and Chi-square test was used to determine the relationship between categorical variables. Average age of the students included in the study is 9.36 ± 1.28 the majority of participants are in the age group of 8 (36.6%, n=48) and 11 year old (33.6%, n=44), and 52.7 (n=69) are girls. The number of students who correctly answered the questions in the first aid information form increased significantly in all questions (p<0.05). While the proportion of students who answered correctly in the pretest ranged from 20.6% to 81.7%, it was found to be between 71.8% and 100% in the posttest. No statistically significant difference was found between girls and boys in terms of gender (p>0.05). In comparison of the average skill points by gender, girls and boys were found to be successful at 89.7% and 88.2%, respectively. Overall, no statistically significant difference was found between girls and boys in terms of gender (p>0.05). The level of knowledge and skills of the children in relation to the first aid practices was increased through the first aid training given to children between the ages of 8 and 11.
