Abstract (EN)

The greatest criticism on today's youth population is that they do not read enough. It has also been proved in many recently-conducted studies that Turkish society is not a much-reading one at all. In order to acquire the qualification of a reading community, first of all, it is necessary that we enjoy reading, and we gain the habit of reading which is the result of the former. Ministry of National Education (MEB) published 100 Basic Literary Works which is the name of a list of books, for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in 2005 which contain literary works chosen from the Turkish and world literature to gain the habit of reading. In this study, it has been attempted to designate the thoughts of 8th grade students who are the subjects of the 100 Basic Literary Works implementation which is advised for junior high school students whose opinions have not been asked, how much these books are read, and the factors that have influence on reading these books. In the evidence of the study, it's proven that not all of the books are read and certain books are read intensively.
