Abstract (EN)

Thesis study starts with the Introduction. First part we studied the political, scientific and literature aspects of the eighteenth century in which Abbas Vesim Efendi lived. In this part, we tried to clarify the century that Abbas Vesîm lived without too much detail. We scrutinized the life, works and the art of Abbas Vesîm in the second part. Abbas Vesim is an important personality who lived in the eighteenth century and is foregrounded with his scientific and literary works. He wrote works on medicine, astronomy, furthermore, wrote a prepared (mürettep) Divan, too. In his works he indicates that he speaks Arabic, Persian, Italian, Greek and some African languages. The most significant feature of Abbas Vesim is that he is a curious researcher. His travels in order to search science and his works on a great spectrum verifiy this claim. Abbas Vesim took lessons from many scientists of his age. Abbas Vesîm, has been to many mystic places and has given place to mystic elements in his Divan. Abbas Vesim wrote Düsturul Vesîm fi Tıbbıl Cedîd vel Kadim and Vesîletü?l- Metâlib fi İlmi?t-Terâkib on medicine. On astronomy, he wrote Nehcü?l-Bulûğ fi Zîci?l-Ulûğ, Risâle fi Ru?yetil Hilâl and Tercemeti Kitâbi?l- Bercendî Minel Husûf. Furthermore he wrote Risâle-i Vefk which is indicated in the sources but cannot be found in the libraries. The third part of our study is the evaluation of Divan. We devided this part into six sections: Religion- Mysticism, Community, Human, Material and Divine Statues, Nature, Reality. The fourth part of our work is composed of the edition critique of the Divan. In the text that we formed from edition critique there are 280 gazel, 12 kaside, (1 mesnevi), 12 tarih, 1 tercî-i bend 1 nazm and 47 rubâi. We take H. edition into granted in the formation of the text. M and V editions are not complete when compared to H. edition. The writing style of the Divan is as follows: kaside, gazel, rubâi and beyit. One of the poems that is witten under the heading of Kaside is mesnevi by its rhyme structure. Dates are generally written as kıta poet form. There are nine poems in Persian two of which are written in kaside form and seven of which are written in Rubai form. In addition to this, there are Persian beyits and Arabic- Persian words and phrases in other literary writing forms. It cannot be argued that the Turkish of Abbas Vesîm is too hard. There are vezin mistakes in his poems. The poet gave an importance to the use of voice. Key Words 1. Abbas Vesîm 2. His iife 3. His Works 4. His Littrary personality 5. Divan
