Abstract (EN)

Goal of this study is determined to examine the primary repair and some prosthetic materials on abdominal wall defects created on rat models and to contribute to the selection of ideal prosthetic material can be used in abdominal incisional hernias. For this purpose, as created experimentally abdominal wall defects were closed either primary or with prosthetic materials such as polypropylene (Prolene), expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (Gore-Tex), adhesion barrier coated polypropylene (Sepramesh) and collagen-coated polyester (Parietex) prothesis.250-300 gr weight, 100 healthy, Wistar Albino genus rats were included in the study. Five equal groups divided, either have 20 rats. Control group closed primarily. Prosthetic materials applied to the other groups. On postoperative 7th and 30th days, adhesion, fibrosis, inflammation scores and tensile strength values were compared between groups. At the end of postoperative 7th and 30th days, the lowest adhesion score was observed in the primary repair group. Highest adhesion score was observed in Prolene group. Statistical difference between primary repair and Prolene groups was significant. On the 7th day, while fibrosis scores were higher in primary repair and Sepramesh groups, at the end of 30th days fibrosis scores were higher in the primary repair and Prolene groups. Minimum inflammation score at the end of the 7th day was detected in Gore-Tex group, the highest score was detected in the group Parietex. On 30th day, fibrosis scores were statistically significantly higher in the primary repair and Prolene groups compared to other groups. At the end of the 7th day, inflammation scores were the same in the primary repair and Sepramesh groups. The lowest scores were detected in Gore-Tex group, highest scores were detected in the group Parietex. At the end of 30th days, inflammation scores were higher in primary repair and Prolene groups compared to other groups. Tensile strength values were detected higher in Prolen and Parietex groups after 7 and 30 days.As a result, primary repair in the treatment of incisional hernia is advantageous, but prosthetic material should be used in the large defects failed to close the peritoneum and the fascia, new studies and researchs are obligatory for the detection of ideal prosthetic material were concluded.
