Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT In this study, the life of Abdurrahmân Shukrî and his place in modern Arabic literature are discussed. Abdurrahmân Shukrî stands out as an innovative poet in Arabic literature. By criticising the poets with classical understanding, he pioneered the destruction of the imitative tradition and the spread of the Romanticism movement in Arabic literature. Abdurrahmân Shukrî tried to put forward a new literary understanding by combining Arabic literature with the understanding of the English Romantic school. He started to apply the innovations he learnt from Western literature in his poems. Against the excessive formalism of classical literature, he focused on the content of the poem and the feelings of the poet. In the introduction part of the study, the periods of innovation movements in Arabic literature, movements and schools were briefly mentioned, and in the first part, Abdurrahmân Shukrî's life, works and literary understanding were discussed. In the second part, his understanding of poetry, the innovations he brought to literature, his criticism of the poets of the Abbasid period, his place in the Dîvân school, his literary debates with Ibrâhîm Abdülkâdir al-Mâzinî, his place in modern Arabic literature, and his defence of innovation movements are discussed.
