Geotechnical characteristics of raw material mines of Adana Cement Factory

Raw materials of the Adana Cement Plant (ACS) are generally limestones and marls. Because of its lithologic features these raw materials play an important role in making cement so that they provide great advantages in the cement production of the ACS. The aim of this study was to determine the geotechnical properties of the limestones and marn needed for a good quality cement production at the ACS. Uniaxial compression and point load tests were performed in order to determine stregths of the raw materials limestone and marn. To determine durability of these materials, slake-durability tests were carried out as well. Moreover, to find out the minerological and geochemical compositions of these materials, X-Ray and titration analyses were done and the standards were found to be higer in the northern part of the quarry As a result of these geotechnical tests, the marerials were clasified. These results affect the quality of the produced cement directly. Key Words: Titration, cement raw material, geotechnic proprties, X-Ray II
