Preperation of protein extracts from inddor fungi in Adana city and possibility of their usage in skin prick test

In this study, fungi concentrations and species / genus of house air of twenty children, who are suffering from allergy, were determined in Adana.The total cell protein extracts were prepared from fungi and then applied to patients in Pediatric Allergy Clinic of Çukurova University Medical Faculty.Sampling was performed once a month, twelve times during the year, from February 2005 to January 2006.A total of 10423 fungi colonies were isolated and as a result 9 different genus of fungi were identified. These were Cladosporium 3832 (%36,76), Penicillum 3570 (%34,25), Aspergillus 1048 (%10,05), Alternaria 661 (%6,34), Rhizopus 216 (%2,07), Fusarium 155 (%1,49), Acremonium 87 (%0,83), Trichoderma 62 (%0,59), Chatemonium 1 (%0,01) and the others 696 (%6,68).Skin Prick Test was performed to 52 patients using the protein extracts. There were 11 allergy positive patients according to fungi allergens. Among those, 6 patients were also positive according to the extracts of laboratory product.Results indicate that the prepared allergens can be used as standard allergens at clinic applications.Key words: Airborne fungi, Isolation, Identification, Skin Prick Test, Allergen.
