Analysis of Adana city wholesale prices of fresh fruits and vegetables

In this study, the relations among the prices and the amount of some fresh fruits and vegetables, which were presented by Adana city Wholesale Market for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables during the year 2008, were analyzed.12 products are discussed within the scope of the study and namely (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, old potatoes), fruits (watermelons, melons, white grapes, peaches) and citrus fruits (grapefruits, seed bearing mandarins, lemons, native oranges), whose trading volume is the highest in the Wholesale Market for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables attached to Adana City Metropolitan Municipality.The amount of fresh fruits-vegetables and citrus fruits included in the study has a proportion of 64% with 300.962.525 kg among 148 different products presented in Wholesale Market in 2008 whose total quantity is 470.259.857 kg and total amount is 146.389.456 TL and they have a proportion of 53% with 78.919.216 TL in amount.The relations between the amount of each fresh fruit and vegetable presented to Wholesale Market and formed prices were analyzed; the structure of price formation in seasonal, monthly, weekly and daily periods was assessed.Daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal price fluctuations were defined in selected fresh fruits and vegetables which were included in the study.As a result the increase in the amount of production of the product, the product was found to reduce the price of the unit.
