Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous in theurban atmosphere and one of the first atmospheric pollutants to be identified assuspected carcinogens. In this work, organic compounds are collected in urban areaswith high trafic density and rural areas in Adana, Türkiye. Samples were Soxheletextracted for 18 hours with 200 ml dichloromethane - acetone. GC/MS was used forthe analysis of the organic matter. The results show that concentrations of PAHs andother air toxics are higher in Adana?s urban area than in rural areas. The mostabundant PAHs were naphthaline and oxi- PAHs. Many samples contain alkanes,PAHs, toluene, benzenedicarbocylicacids, biphenils and benzene.Trafic is the mostimportant source of PAHs and air toxics.Key Words: PAHs, hazourdous air pollutants, trafic density, AdanaII
