Abstract (EN)

Divan poetry is very rich in terms of literary arts, vocabulary and imagery. The words used in poems can also have more than one meaning. Poets also benefited from these words with multiple meanings in their poems and added depth of meaning to their poems by using some words or expressions with more than one meaning through literary arts such as tevriye/iham, iham-ı tenasüp, iham-ı contrast, allusion. By using words with more than one meaning, they enriched their poems with meaning and made them open to interpretation. The meanings of a word have found a place in poems, whether it is used in relationship with other words or used to indicate more than one meaning of the word. Thus, a new tradition was born in divan poetry and it became common for poets to include polysemous words in their poems. In Ahmed Paşa's Divan, which is the subject of this study, polysemy was heavily involved and poems that were very rich in meaning were created. In the study, Ahmed Paşa Divan was examined in terms of polysemy. The depth of meaning and multi-layered structure of divan poetry has been tried to be shown through the polysemous words determined in the divan. In this thesis, written to determine how and to what extent polysemy was used in the Ahmed Paşa Divan, the layers of meaning were examined under separate headings. The couplets containing the identified polysemous words were presented as numerical data, tables and figures, and the situation was revealed statistically.
