A new historical approach to Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's Saatleri Ayarlama Esntitüsü

The new historicist approach is based on the view that historiography cannot be done objectively and is subjective. While New Historicism examines history based on experience, narrative, and textuality, it is skeptical of established and official approaches to history. It is interdisciplinary in nature and historical texts with other texts. It creates a field of study that appreciates and tries to write a kind of cultural history in which the common man stands out. In this respect, the interaction of literature with history emerges in many disciplines, especially in the novel. Time Regulation Institute (1961) as a semester II. It is an autobiographical narrative of the life story of Hayri İrdal, who lived in these periods, covering a long period starting from the reign of Abdülhamit and extending to the Republic. In the work, the transition process between traditional and modernity is expressed with a new historical perspective. The alienation of the society to itself is presented to the reader by using exaggeration and absurd narration. The irony is also frequently used. In this novel, which has a unique place in Turkish literature, the author's point is the rejection of the unconditional acceptance of modernization and the social problems that occur. It is considered one of the cornerstones of the work, which is very important and should be emphasized, in which the transition process is brought together by using different styles and text features. The Time Regulation Institute, in which Hayri İrdal's autobiography is narrated, can be described as a novel in which Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar presents his own thoughts and criticisms while reshaping historiography with his own unique methods. In the novel, a humorous autobiography of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's thoughts and criticisms about society is presented through Hayri İrdal. Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar has observed the characteristics of the society and the culture he is in very well and presented the confusions and identity crises encountered during the transition to modernity to the reader in his work. The author, who is one of the intellectuals of the period, also made subjective criticisms of Turkey in his professionally fictionalized novel. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the Clock Adjustment Institute from the perspective of a new historical perspective. For this purpose, in the study, which is divided into three parts, first the new historicism theory, then autobiography, and finally modern historiography are examined.
