An analysis of the academic Arabic language teaching set in terms of four basic language skills

This study consists of an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. The introduction comprises the purpose, the importance, the scope, and the method of the study. In the first chapter, each of the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in foreign language and their role in language teaching is handled independently. Also, the types and models, the teaching strategies, the stages and methods to be followed during teaching, the difficulties encountered in the teaching process, some solution recommendations and the activities that can be implemented for developing these skills are examined. In addition, in this section, some criteria have been established to acquire an effective way for teaching basic language skills in the book series prepared for foreign language teaching. In the second chapter, the listening, speaking, reading, and writing series of the Academic Arabic Language Teaching Set (el-'Arabiyyetu li'l-Câmi'ât), which is used as a textbook for teaching Arabic in higher education programs in Turkey, were analyzed in terms of teaching four basic language skills. Firstly, the set was introduced in terms of form and content, afterwards, the positive and negative aspects of the set were tried to be revealed with a critical approach through the lesson examples taken from the listening, speaking, reading and writing textbooks in the set. In the conclusion of the study, the research was evaluated in general within the framework of the criteria established in the first chapter and the findings obtained in the second chapter.
