Investigation of the attitudes of high school students with academic success towards physical education and sports according to different variables

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the attitudes of high school students studying at schools with high academic success towards physical education course on their academic motivation in terms of different variables. The relational screening model, one of the quantitative methods, was used in the study. The sample of the study consists of students studying at science high schools with high academic success status in Adana province. 576 students studying at these science high schools participated in the study. "Personal Information Form", "Physical Education Course Attitude Scale" and "Academic Motivation Scale" were used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the normality tests of the data obtained from the participants, independent samples t-test was used for the comparison of paired groups, one-way ANOVA Test was used for the comparison of multiple groups and Pearson Correlation Analysis was used for the relationship analysis. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that students' physical education course attitudes showed a significant difference according to the variables of gender, doing sports regularly outside of school and in a club in their free time, while their academic motivation showed a significant difference according to the variables of class level, attending academic preparation course, doing sports regularly in a club, perception of adequacy of sports complexes in school, frequency of mother and father doing sports. In addition, it was determined that there was a moderate positive significant relationship between physical education course attitude and academic motivation.
