Determination of sports awareness levels of academic staff and examination according to demographic characteristics

The aim of this study is to determine the sports awareness levels of academic staff and to examine them according to demographic characteristics. While 1536 academic staff working at Malatya İnönü University constituted the universe of the research, 155 academic staff who voluntarily participated from 520 academic staff who met the criteria for inclusion in the research and agreed to participate in the research consisted of the sample. In this study, the 10-item Personal Information Form created by the researcher himself, which includes the personal information of the participants, and the Sports Awareness Questionnaire, which was developed to determine sports awareness and consisted of 30 items, were applied. The obtained data were evaluated in the statistical package program, p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. At the end of the study; It was determined that 59.4% of the academic staff were male, 69% were married, 37.4% were between the ages of 29-40, 27.1% were Res.Assist., 52.9% worked in the field of social sciences, 31.6% had 21 years or more of professional experience, 52.3% had income equivalent to expenses, 37.4% had no children, 31% were spectators, 31% were both participants and spectators, and 64.5% were individuals who played sports in their family. It was seen that the sports awareness levels of the academic staff were significantly higher in men than in women, that they were significantly lower in the 29-40 age range compared to other age ranges, that both participants and spectators in sports participation were significantly higher than others, and that those who had individuals who did sports in their families were significantly higher than those who did not have individuals who did sports. There was no significant difference according to marital status, income level, number of children, professional experience, academic title and faculty variables. After all; gender, age and participation in sports can be said to be effective in increasing or decreasing sports awareness.
