Social life and position of women in semitic tribes from Akkad to the age of ignorance

In the study, Social Life and the Position of Women from Akkad to the Age of Ignorance are discussed. A woman is the owner of the mother's womb in the existence, birth and first life point of the human being. The position of the woman, who is the reason for the existence of such a person, has been at very different points in the historical process. In the study, when the position of women in the Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Neo-Babylonian and Ignorance periods was considered, it was seen that the status of wealthy, noble and dynastic people was quite good. However, it has been understood that women's rights in social life are generally very limited. It has been observed that women are generally under the authority of their fathers before marriage, their brothers if their fathers are absent, and their husbands after marriage, that they are not given the right to speak and that their fathers decide first, or their husbands when their brothers get married. It has been determined in the research that women do not have the right to divorce, and that the right of inheritance is limited or not given. In Semitic societies, where women were seen as second-class people, commodities, and items that could be bought and sold, it was observed that the most loss of rights occurred in the Age of Ignorance. In Ignorance, which was a period when it was considered a shame to have a daughter and the atrocities were experienced when girls were buried alive, women were almost not given any rights other than the right to live. As a profession, women generally worked in jobs such as housework, animal care, agricultural work, and trade, albeit partially. However, it is known that women work in professions such as beer and tavern, dance, entertainment and singing, and these jobs are among the bad professions that are not liked in the society. Ignorance, which was the period when the violations of women's rights and the position of women were at their lowest, came to an end with the advent of Islam and women were given the value they deserved. This situation continues to exist as a fundamental human rights problem in the same geography. The reason for this is thought to be the existence of patriarchal patriarchal family structure, biased interpretation of cultural elements, ignorance and backwardness.
