Determination of raw material properties and investigation of calcination behaviour of Akarca village (Hatay) limestones

In this thesis study, the limestone samples were taken from Akarca Village (Hatay). Two type limestones (light and dark colour) were defined in the study area. At the tests, the chemical, petrographical, mineralogical, physico-mechanical and thermal properties of the limestones were determined.At the end of the tests, the light colour limestones with CaCO3 ratio higher than %98 CaCO3, low content of impurities (SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3) according to chemical analysis, fine crystal structure according to petrographical analysis, higher than 2,55 g/cm3, 400 kg/cm2, unit volume weight, compressive strength, respectively and lower than %30 loss of wear result for Los Angeles Abrassive Test could be used for building material, lime, glass and refractory material production. Also, dark colour type limestones could be used for building material.
