Abstract (EN)

This study examines the effects of 5E learning model activities supported by the Algodoo application on the attitudes and academic achievements of 5th-grade middle school students in Science courses. The research was conducted during the 2022-2023 academic year with the participation of 48 students studying at a public middle school in Siirt. The students were divided into an experimental group (n=28) and a control group (n=20), and both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using an explanatory mixed-methods research design. In the quantitative dimension of the study, the "Academic Achievement Test" was used to measure students' academic success, while the "Attitude Scale Towards Science Course" was used to determine their attitudes toward the Science course. In the qualitative dimension, a semi-structured interview form was applied to the experimental group students to determine their opinions on the Algodoo application. SPSS 27 software was used to analyze the quantitative data, and content analysis was performed on the qualitative data. The study results indicated that although the 5E model supported by the Algodoo application did not have a significant effect on academic achievement, it led to a statistically significant increase in attitudes toward the Science course. Additionally, students described the Algodoo application as instructive, useful, informative, and enjoyable, stating that it contributed to the concretization of abstract concepts, visualization, and learning by doing and experiencing. However, some negative aspects such as language barriers, difficulty in use, and potential addiction were also mentioned. In conclusion, it can be stated that the Algodoo application positively influences students' attitudes toward Science education and supports the learning process.
