Abstract (EN)
Ali Kemal lived between the last years of the Ottoman Empire and in the first years of the Republic (of Turkey). Ali Kemal, who wrote up many literal works, also performed many important duties as a statesman. In his work titled "Ilm-i Ahlak", Ali Kemal give weight to more practice. He based moral virtues with verse and hadith when the place comes; but the numbers of the verses, the names of the periods and sources of the hadith did not appear on the pages. He prepared this work in accordance with the seventh year's curriculum of the high scholls to participate in the competition opened by the Ministry of Education at the time of the Ottoman high school instruction in Aleppo. This work, which has come from two main chapters as practical moral and speculative moral, and which the author has emphasized on "individual and social morality", is based on religious sources, especially on the related verses and hadiths. According to the "Expilogue", the writer wrote up with a plain language to the author's work and used a literary style when necessary. In the meantime, he also included kelam-ı kibar (polite remark) in Arabic and Persian couplets. He stated that Sahihi al-Bukhari and el - Camiu's- Sağır (written by Süyûti) were used for the hadiths and that made reference to Süyûti's el-Le'âli'l-masnû'a fi'l-ehâdîsi'l mevzua (make-up hadith book) for the mevzu (make-up) hadiths. The work reflects the religious knowledge and views of Ali Kemal as well as his dominance over religious resources and reveals an important direction which is not mentioned up to now. He has also enriched the content of his work with moral and gnostic poems, such as Turkish and Arabic, the prophet shorthand, and exemplary moral behaviors of Islam. The transcriptions he made from famous moral philosophers such as Eflatun (Plato), Aristotle, Ibn Sina(Avicenna), show great knowledge and culmination of the author, but also give a great deal of power in terms of effect. The writing of İlm-i Ahlak in the Syria city of Aleppo in the first years of the Republic is a valuable work in terms of cultural interaction and reflection of the moral structure of the Ottoman society at that time, the ideal morals of the intellectuals of the period.
