Criticized publication of Ali Rıza Hakses's Muğla-Menteşe Büyükleri

This study is an edition critique of "Muğla-Menteşe Büyükleri" by Ali Rıza Hakses, a former head of religious affairs who served as Mufti of Mugla between 1938 and 1948. Beginning his work by giving information about the formation of Menteşeoğulları Beylic in 1261 in Southwestern Anatolia and the life history of its sultans, Hakses wrote "Muğla-Menteşe Büyükleri" in 1941 by giving life stories of 155 people in all who had been raised or had served in Muğla district such as bey, emir, alim, fazıl, artist, sheik-meshayih. Hakses has made oral history studies by using oral narratives as well as written sources while writing his work, providing crucial information about Mugla's local history. Muğla-Menteşe Büyükleri was simplified and published in 1999 and 2010. Since there was no complete edition critique of the simplified works and the one published in 1999 contained incomplete and incorrect simplifications, and the work lost its originality, previous errors tried to be corrected in this Master's thesis "The Edition Critique of Mugla-Menteşe Büyükleri by Ali Riza Hakses, one of the former heads of the Religious Affairs.". In addition, in this study, the language structure has been preserved based on the single and original copy that Hakses himself wrote with a typewriter. Besides the edition critique, this study contains the life and works of Ali Rıza Hakses, the sources he benefited from were introduced, and the importance of the work concerning the history of Mugla-Menteşe was mentioned.
