Development of a method for the analysis of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and legal evaluation of their alcohol content within the scope of legislations

It is known that mistakes to be made in the production or use of alcohol-based hand disinfectants, which have been used for years, especially after the Covid-19 epidemic, are of great concern to public authorities aiming to protect both public health and public health.In the study, a method has been developed for the determination of the chemical contents of alcohol-based hand disinfectants both for the production and use of non-toxicity within the scope of public health and for shedding light on the legal regulations to be issued by public administrations and the legislator. For this purpose, different brands of hand disinfectants produced by different manufacturers on the market were collected as samples in order to develop a method. The collected samples were used to develop the analysis method using the headspace technique and gas chromatography equipped with FID. In the study, after the stock solutions were prepared, a calibration curve was drawn with the calibration samples created at certain concentrations and the developed method was validated. Then, the findings obtained with the developed method were revealed and a comparison was made with the type and rate of alcohol written in the descriptions of the products. The legislation to which alcohol-based hand disinfectants are subject is also explained together with the method. The results and product descriptions were compared and the comparison between the product description and the actual results after the analysis was made within the scope of the sample, and the similarities and differences between the explanations found in different brand products and the results we obtained were revealed.
