The Comparison of initial teacher training programmes of Germany, France, England and Turkey

ABSTRACTTHE COMPARISON OF INITIAL TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMMES OFGERMANY, FRANCE, ENGLAND AND TURKEYSongül KİLİMCİPhD Dissertation, Department of Education SciencesSupervisor : Asst.Prof.Dr. Ahmet DOĞANAYDecember 2006, 320 pagesIn this study, the initial teacher training programmes of the EU countries, Germany,French and England were investigated and compared with the Initial Teacher TrainingProgramme practiced in Turkey.The study focused on national and international aspects of education, the stages ofprogramme development, the studies and the methods in the field of comparative education.The study also dealt with general education system and teacher training programmes forvarious stages in the countries under investigation.In this study, in addition to the descriptive, definition and demonstrative technique, insome parts, the historical analyses and in most parts juxtaposition comparison method is used.The data collected by means of correspondance, literature review, and website of relatedcountries and universities were brought together and analysed. As a result of the comparison,the similarities and differences were presented in tablesiiiWhen comparing the initial teacher training programme of Germany, France, Englandand Turkey, the similarities and differences in the general education systems of thesecountries, admission requirements, goals, teaching methods, teaching practice and evaluationwere also investigated, the data gathered were presented in tables.Based on the data, some comments and suggestions were put forward.
