Social relief system and Social work practices of Germany

One of the main missions of Social Work is to produce knowledge on efficiency and productivity of the social policies to be applied. It is very important to bring in to the literature the model of Germany with experience surplus of about half century with reference to Turkey in this field, and as being a good model in social welfare practices. In this sense, the aim of this study is to provide a piece for Social Work discipline by examining Social relief system and Social work practices of Germany as being a good model in the field of Social Work, and make it available for students, academicians, non-governmental organizations, as well as state institutions and organizations working in the area of Social Work in Turkey. The reason to choose Social relief system and Social work practices of Germany to examine in this study is that, it is one of the most extensive and most advanced social relief systems among its kinds around the world. Germany differs from the Libaral Anglo-saxon mind by providing support services as a legal right given by the state to the citizenry rather than basis of a volunteering system, and not leaving needers to market risks and put them under legal protection. On the other hand, Germany shares similarities with Turkey, by regarding the family as the building block of the society and the crucial institution to be preserved for social continuity in a conservative understanding. Due to this reason, Germany can be considered to be in the position of being a good model for Turkiye in the field of Social Policies. Although there are wide range of benefits that Turkiye can gain from the model of Germany, studies in this context are enormously limited. In this sense, I believe that this study will fill a significant gap in the literature, contribute recognizability of Social relief system and Social work practices of Germany, and serve as a reference guide for the Germany-Turkiye comparative studies in our country. This study, which has delt with the social work practices of Germany as a whole and based upon an extensive research, is a genuine one in terms of contribution for filling the gap of scientific knowledge in the discipline. The introductory chapter covers the concepts of Social relief and Social Work in terms of their most current meanings and overlapping points, and deals with the Social Work history in Germany in brief. In the first chapter, within the framework of legal rights, The Book of Social Laws, „Sozialgesetzbuch I-XII" which regulates the social benefits and composed of 12 books has been discussed. Second chapter deals with general Social Work practices, while the last chapter covers the assessment and implications.
