Investigation of the cartoon called Alpman in the context of cultural elements in teaching Turkish to foreigners

Culture; It consists of elements such as a nation's lifestyle, thought, belief, traditions-customs, food, clothing, idioms and proverbs. Some of these may be similar or the same as other cultures, or they may be different. When it is similar or the same, it eliminates the prejudice against the target language in foreign language learning. For this reason, it is obvious that cultural transfer will benefit language learning. Because a foreign language is learned around the culture of the target language. How to transfer culture is one of the important issues. There are many materials in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. One of these is audiovisual tools. It is known that audiovisual tools are important in terms of ensuring permanence and rapid learning, as well as ensuring that permanent information is not forgotten late. People of all ages, regardless of age, watch cartoons, which are audiovisual tools. Especially when watched at a young age, children take the characters in cartoons as role models. In this case, language learning takes place through cultural transfer while the student applies the information he learned in the cartoon to real life. There are many cartoons about learning Turkish as a mother tongue. However, the number of cartoons on teaching Turkish as a foreign language is limited. Based on this situation, the "Alpman" cartoon was found suitable for examination in terms of both cultural transfer and foreign language teaching. In the research, content analysis and semi-structured interview form, which are qualitative research methods, were applied. 39 episodes of the cartoon "Alpman" broadcast on the MinikaGO channel were evaluated in terms of cultural elements and content analysis was carried out. The first 16 episodes, which include idioms, proverbs, games, foods, objects and figurative expressions in Turkish culture, were shown to TOGÜ TÖMER B2 level students. A semi-structured interview form was applied to the students in order to measure the applicability of cartoons in cultural transfer and learning Turkish as a foreign language. In the research, 120 idioms, 5 proverbs, 9 games, 16 names, 6 foods, 10 gestures and facial expressions, 16 clothes, 12 items, 11 metaphorical expressions were identified. According to the results of the semi-structured interview form, it was concluded that the "Alpman" cartoon would be useful in teaching Turkish as a foreign language in terms of both cultural transfer and language learning.
