An analysis of the energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean as a game changer in the region

The world countries experience a new practice with the globalization process. Growing trade volume and the number of population and decreasing natural resources increase the importance of fossil energy resources. The unequal distribution of fossil energy resources, as one of the most important inputs of economic and daily life, deepens its geostrategic dimension. In this context, oil and natural gas reserve discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean and especially around the island of Cyprus are closely related to the energy supply security of the countries neighboring the Mediterranean. The aim of this study is to discuss the importance of newly discovered energy reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean region, which can already be likened to a multivariate equation. The study focuses on the role of energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean as a game-changing factor in the region, which contains many problems, crises and cooperation opportunities.
