ABSTRACT AK ANALYSIS OF THE OPINIONS OF INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS TOWARDS THE PROBLEMS RELATED WITH WRITING ACTIVITIES IN WRITING CLASSES (A Study Carried out at Foreign Languages Department of Gaziantep University) By Güzide Oner MA in English Language Teaching Supervisor : Assist. Prof. Dr. Elif Leyla Toprak July, 2000, 222 Pages The purpose of the present study is to analyse the problems concerned with writing activities by investigating the differences in the attitudes of the students and instructors at Foreign Languages Department of Gaziantep University. The main concern of the research is to investigate the relationship between instructions and writing abilities. The subjects of this study consisted of 133 students selected randomly from the preparatory classes, and 25 instructors of Foreign Languages Department. In this study, the differences in the opinions of instructors and students towards writing activities were analysed. In order to collect data, a questionnaire was prepared and administrated to these subjects. The data were analysed by using chi square(non- parametric test of significance). The percentages of the results illustrated in the tables indicate that there are not many differences between the opinions of instructors and students. Informants considerably believe the importance of prewriting activities. The preference of instructors and students seem to be for the writing process. Science Code: ELT 599
