Abstract (EN)

Banana is a tropical climate fruit and therefore it is grown in open areas in its ecosystem. However, in countries with subtropical climates such as Egypt, Israel, Spain, Australia, Morocco and Turkey, open and covered cultivation is economically important. Cultivation under both tropical and subtropical ecological conditions presents various problems. While diseases and pests are among the most important factors limiting cultivation in tropical regions, problems caused by low temperatures, frost damage, extreme summer temperatures, day/night temperature differences and especially abiotic stresses come to the fore in subtropical regions. As in other subtropical countries, greenhouse cultivation has been emphasized in recent years in order to eliminate the negative effects of low temperatures in Japan, and this situation has been largely reflected in the increase in cultivated area and production. In this study, by using soil samples collected from banana orchards in Anamur and Bozyazı counties of Mersin province, where bananas are widely grown in Japan, the relationship between soil properties and yield and quality standards has been clarified and suggestions have been made to increase yield and quality.
