Abstract (EN)

The current study was aimed to estimate the levels of homocysteine, vitamin B12 and some hematological parameters in anemic chronic kidney disease (CKD). A hundred blood samples (100) of anemic chronic renal failure (CRF) patients, where was collected with age ranges between (35-70) years were selected in this study. Those patients visited Kirkuk General Hospital from April to May 2023 and all patients were subjected to a personal interview using especially designed questionnaire format of full history with detailed information. For patients and healthy subjects, 5mL was taken from each patient and healthy subjects (50) without any disease. For kidney functions, urea and creatinine levels in patients significantly increased (P≤0.05) compared to control group. About hematological parameters, RBC count, Hb and PCV demonstrated significant (P ≤0.05) reduce in patients compared to control group while MCV demonstrated non-significant (P ≤0.05) differences in patients compared to control group. Serum ferritin and homocysteine concentrations demonstrated significant (P ≤0.05) elevated in patients compared to control group. Also, vitamin B12 demonstrated significant (P ≤0.05) reduce in patients compared to control group. Finally it is concluded from the current study, and based on the results of the study, that there is a strong association between homocysteine levels and chronic renal failure, with changes in blood picture parameters represented by a decrease in the proportions of red blood cells and hemoglobin.
