Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of animation based values education program on achievement, attitude toward lesson and informatics ethics values and retention. The mixed method was applied in the research. In the quantitative part of the research; experimental, control and placebo group, pre-test, post-test, retention test and retention monitoring tests) were used as quasi-experimental design. In the qualitative part of the research was based on case study. The study group of the research consisted of three 11th grade classes, whose achievement levels are 'moderate' and which were educated in the branches of IT of a vocational high school in Aydın. Each class was assigned as control, experimental and placebo group by multi-stage cluster sampling method. In this research, placebo group as well as the control group were included in order to show that the change in the experimental group caused by the animation based values education program. The researcher conducted the curriculum in all three groups and carrying out the teaching programs in each groups took eight weeks. In the experimental group, the program which was prepared according to the animation based values education was applied and the current program were applied in the control group. In the placebo group, unlike the control group, the program was enriched with concept cartoons. Pre-test before the implementation of the programs and post-test after the implementation of the programs were applied. Two months after the implementation of the programs, retention test and two months after the implementation of retenion test, retention monitoring test were applied to the groups. In addition, students were interviewed after the implementation of the program. In this research, quantitative data were collected by measurement tools (Graphics And Animation Lesson Achievement Test, An Attitude Scale Towards Graphics And Animation Lesson, An Attitude Scale for Values in Informatics, Dilemma Case Forms) and qualitative data were collected by Dilemma Case Forms and Semi-Structured Interview Form. In the analysis of quantitative data, one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used to measure intergroup differences and the data were analyzed with SPSS 23.00 program. For the quantitative analysis of dilemma case forms, Mann-Whitney U Test was used to compare the mean scores of pre-test and post-test responds given by students in the experimental and the control groups while Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used to compare the repeated measurements of groups. Qualitative data were analyzed by using content and descriptive analysis technique. According to the findings; at the end of the implementation process, the students of the experimental group, applied animation based values education program, were found to be better in terms of both achievement, attitude towards lesson and informatics ethics values than control and placebo group students and this situation was also explained statistically. In addition, students emphasized the importance of learning by doing in terms of internalizing the values in the process of preparing animation while they expressed the importance of the values of ICT ethics nowadays and the necessity of teaching these values. As a result, it was concluded that animation based values education program had a positive effect on the achievement of graphics and animation lesson, attitude towards the lesson and informatics ethics values. According to the findings of the interviews, the students stated that the use of animation made the lesson funny, facilitated learning and provided retention in learning. As a result of research, it can be suggested to teachers that teaching the lessons with animation based, giving animation preparation homework to students and informing students about the ethics values of informatics by giving examples from daily life.
