Determination of exercise/physical activity consciousness levels of health personnel working in Ankara

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the consciousness levels of health personnel in sports, exercise and physical activity and to explain and interpret the various factors that affect this. A screening model was used in the research under quantitative research method. The universe of this research consists of the health personnel working in Ankara. A total of 132 people were selected by random sampling method, 87 women and 45 men, who work in hospitals operating under the Ministry of Health in Ankara, and who agreed to participate in the study voluntarily. The "Health-Exercise and physical activity level of consciousness" questionnaire developed by Tuncel and Tuncel (2009) was used. The cronboach alpha reliability factor of the survey for this study was calculated as .95. The analysis of the data was done with the SPSS 23 program. Frequency and percentage calculations were made for the demographics of the research group. Descriptive statistics were used in the interpretation of other data in the study. In this context, arithmetic averages, standard deviations, frequencies and percentages of the obtained data were used. In addition, kay-square testing and correlation analysis were performed to determine the relationships between some variables. As a result, it was concluded that the health personnel had a high level of Exercise/Physical Activity awareness, but the rates of exercise were low, those with any chronic disease were more than separate, and the rates as a type of disease were respectively hypertension, sugar and cardiovascular disease from high to low. Furthermore, time that they spent passively in front of computers and television is intense, and they had high levels of personal stress and stress related to work. In addition, although it is seen that the majority of the health personnel is the ideal body mass index according to the BMI scores obtained from the calculations, it is found that number of health personnel whose the body mass indexes are fat and obese cannot be underestimated. It was also found that there was no connection between BMI and age, marital status, occupation, year of study and duration of exercise. However, there was a connection between BMI and sex. According to this, the proportion of women in individuals with ideal BMI is higher, while the proportion of men in individuals who fall into the fat and obese classification is higher. However, while there was no significant correlation between Exercise/Physical Activity consciousness, level of weight, height, BMI, resting heart rate, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure of the health personnel, a significant correlation was found between weight, it was founded that BMI is rising when the weight increases, diastolic blood pressure rises when systolic blood pressure; and diastolic blood pressure is rising when height, resting heart rate and systolic blood pressure increases.
