A Modern Eating and Drinking Place in the Construction of Ankara: 1923 – 1953 In this thesis study, Baba Karpiç Şehir Lokantası, Karpiç Lokantası is handled both as a modern interior space and as a symbolic place where the modern city and modern citizens can be read. Karpiç Lokantası is considered as a modern interior as a reflection of Ankara's structural change with the modernization process and the modern environment and modern-looking structures that have begun to be created. At the same time, the reflection of the modern individual, which was started to be created, was conveyed through Karpiç Restaurant First of all, the social life practices and appearance of Taşhan and its surroundings, which is the center of the city, in the process of creating a modern capital with the declaration of Ankara as the capital and the establishment of the Republic are conveyed. Then, the effects of the Lörcher Plan, one of the city plans drawn by the city's development studies, the rapid growth of the city and the inadequacy of the Lörcher Plan, the applications and predictions of the Jansen Plan, and the formation of socializing areas in the capital Ankara were conveyed. While the structural changes continue on the one hand, the reflection of the modern life-forming of the society together with the socialization spaces that have begun to be created on the other hand, has been evaluated through the eating and drinking spaces, one of the socialization spaces. Karpiç Lokantası stands out as the pioneer of the modern restaurant in Ankara with its behavior pattern in eating and drinking places, its Western-style service concept and modern interior design. v With this thesis, it is aimed to convey the effect of modern social interior on modern life practice by reading the structural and social changes in Ankara with the modernization process through Karpic Restaurant. At the end of the study, it was seen that Karpiç Restaurant, which is a modern socializing place, is both a symbolic place where modern social life practices are exhibited socially, and a place that mirrors the period in which the life style of the society is observed. Karpiç Lokantası is a modern restaurant not only with its modern society and modern behavior, but also with its modern interior design.
