The comparative analysis of access to main educational services of Syrians and Iraqies in Ankara

Within the scope of migration and forced migration as a result of increase of population in Turkey together with influx of Iraqi and Syrian refugees under International Protection and Temporary Protection status due to the escalating civil war in the country of origins in recent years, security issues, together with the lack of basic humanitarian standards of living and instability, the problems of access to public services in Turkey and in particular access to education have begun to emerge as noteworthy issues. Since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria, neighboring countries have faced a large influx of refugees. In addition to meeting the urgent humanitarian needs of the Syrian refugees within the emergency response framework, ensuring easy and equal access to education is very important in the process of full integration into the new life in Turkey. Turkey is providing humanitarian assistance to nearly three million people residing inside Turkey and in temporary accommodation centers in various regions. Besides the Syrian crisis, with substantial population of Iraqis in Turkey in recent years due to the instability and an environment of conflict in Iraq, thousands of people were forced to migrate in Turkey. It is also important for Iraqi refugees to take important steps in terms of access to education both for the individuals and for the future of the countries. On the other hand, given the distribution of the proportion of children in the refugee community, it is evident that the services for children at risk of being lost generation still pose a current question without satisfactory answers. In this context, the study discusses the educational opportunities for Syrian and Iraqi foreigners residing in Altındağ and Mamak districts in Ankara. The study, which has a comparative content structure, focuses on educational opportunities and examines the existing barriers to Syrian and Iraqi refugees' access to educational services. As a dependent social actor with high fragility, the position of children's vulnerability has not been properly taken into account, but the area focusing on children has recently been the subject of considerable attention. In order to ensure the sustainability of such fine attention, this study focuses on the negative survival strategies of society in the event of a crisis, with structural barriers to access to education or lack of technical infrastructure. In addition to qualitative and quantitative research and analysis of barriers and deficiencies, it is also among the objectives to present comparative solutions to the problematic issues.
