Abstract (EN)

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the spine and sacroiliac arthrosis. Behçet's disease is a chronic disease that affects many systems of the body, including the eye. In this study, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were examined and compared. The median (min-max values) levels of SOD, catalase, MDA, GSH levels in 34 patients with ankilosing spondylitis were found as 6.07 (1.34-9.42) U/gHb; 2.38 (0.19-25.51) U/gHbx104; 57.44 (14.18-69.10) nmol/ml; 0.029 (0.003-0.044) µmol/ml, respectively. SOD, catalase, MDA, GSH levels in 34 patients with Behcet disease were 1.30 (0.49-7.58) U/gHb; 9.44 (0.01-22.47) U/gHbx104; 10.43 (7.14-57.64) nmol/ml; 0.023 (0.001-0.087) µmol/ml respectively. Although SOD, catalase, MDA levels were statistically significant between both groups, GSH levels were not statistically significant.
