Analysis of Surah Rahman in terms of semantic field theory

Semantics is a term that refers to the field where meaning is examined and problems related to meaning are being discussed. Semantics which has become an important discipline of linguistics in recent years, deals with language in terms of meaning and examines the meanings of different elements in the language, especially words and concepts and the semantic relations between them. Semantic methods and theories aim to reach the meanings of linguistic elements by applying objective criteria. The semantic field theory which has an important place among them, facilitates to reach the meaning by gathering words and concepts that have common semantic features. In recent years, the semantic field theory has also become one of the theories applied in the Qur'anic studies. In this study, surah Rahman one of the surahs of the Holy Qur'an has been analyzed in terms of the semantic field theory. In this context, first of all, the words and concepts that can form a common meaning field with each other in the surah have been determined. Afterwards, both their dictionary definitions and the meanings they are used in the verses have been tried to be determined. Finally, the semantic relations between the words and concepts in the semantic fields have been examined. Key Words: Qur'an, Surah Rahman, Meaning, Semantics, Semantic Field
