Abstract (EN)

Motherhood and femininity issues are among the subjects frequently examined in the context of gender. The reasons for this situation include the fact that motherhood has a variable structure rather than a static one and that each woman's motherhood is unique. In this study, primarily the conceptual perception of motherhood and femininity is discussed. Then, textbooks were examined as an official discourse on the perception of mothers and women. It has been tried to show how the perception of motherhood has developed through textbooks, starting from the Republican period, with sample textbooks. In addition to the official ideology, the situation in which women with children participate in certain platforms within the framework of concepts related to motherhood on social media in line with their own preferences and wishes and highlight their motherhood by using some social media applications is discussed. There is a perception of motherhood created and maintained by women on the internet. Women share their experiences about motherhood through these platforms. The purpose of this study is to determine what kind of perception these posts create about motherhood. In order to see whether the shares made on social media have a universal nature, English accounts were also discussed and comparative information was tried to be obtained. This thesis aims to examine how women who appear on social media with the identity of "mother" shape the perception of motherhood, whether there is any intersection with the official discourse, and the impact of consumption and visibility in modernism on shaping the perception of motherhood. The discourse analysis and purposeful sampling techniques used in the study were applied to the following materials: various books titled Turkish, Social Studies, Reading published since the proclamation of the Republic, a total of eight social media accounts and four platforms in both Turkish and English. As a result, the subject is how the perception of motherhood, given through informal and official discourses, emerges in social media accounts created with personal preferences. Keywords: Social media, motherhood, school books.
