Analysis of the architectural plans of hotels constructed in antalya province between 1990 and 2015

Antalya has a unique place among tourism centers in Turkey and world. Thanks to its natural and cultural properties, coastal band of Antalya attracts both domestic and foreign tourists throughout the year. This interest induced the different and diversified construction of tourism facilities in the region. So, Antalya is chosen as the study area as there are a number of resort hotels which change according to consumer demands and are quite different or similar to each other in this respect. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the architectural plan types of hotels constructed in Antalya between 1990 and 2015. In this context, definition and importance of tourism as well as history, location, boundaries, cultural and geographic properties of Antalya are briefly cited, the course of development in Antalya, alternative tourism definitions, hotel concept and classification are made, and lastly, indoor spaces of hotels are referred in the study. Hotels are classified and explained according to building mass order, suit floor plan mass order and perceptual features. Architectural plan types of hotels located in Konyaalti, Lara-Kundu, Belek, Beldibi, Kemer, Göynük, and Side regions of Antalya Province. In this regard, plan types are interpreted based on the interviews with technical managers and designers of hotels as well as our observational findings and other necessary materials. These interpretations are grouped and given in tables. Hotels with similar and different plan types are determined. The architectural designs of the same or different architects are found to demonstrate certain similarities. However, it is also observed that these similarities are resolved with different meanings attributed to these architectural masses. It has been determined that building masses of resorts are designed with different architectural concepts in order to attract tourists and market themselves to compete with their rivals.
