A multi criteria analyses of the green spaces in antalya and the development of planning strategies

In this study, open and green spaces of Antalya city of Turkey were examined by using multi criteria analyses. The analyses done in the research are: land use change, existing green space system, existing public green spaces, green space user preferences and opinions, municipal green space policies, SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). A green spaces planning strategy and actions to be done were proposed according to the results of multi criteria analyses and open-green space planning principles. Land use changes in the research area between the years 1987 and 2010 was determined by using LANDSAT satellite images. According to the results, the urban area which was 8.3 % in 1987 rose up to 21.2 % in 2010, while forest and agricultural areas decreased from 55.2 % to 40.7 % and 31.6 % to 22.7 %, respectively, at the same period. Active green space per capita was determined 4,2 m² in the region. It was determined that active green spaces increased from year to year but the distribution of these spaces throughout the city were not homogenous. It was also found that developing an green space system connected to each other with artificial and natural landscape corridors had benefits to urban microclimate and that the city's physical, natural and ecological aspects were proper for forming a green space system in Antalya. A user survey was conducted in the context of the study to get the opinions and preferences of green space users and the results showed that the users generally found the green spaces in Antalya inadequate. The green spaces planning strategies and actions proposed in this study are thought to be helpful for future development of green spaces in Antalya .
