Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT INVESTIGATIONS ON SELECTION AND PROPAGATION OPPORTUNITIES OF JOJOBA (Simmondsia ckinensis L.) PLANTS GROWN FROM SEEDS IN ANTALYA ECOLOGY Özgür AKDEŞİR M. Sc. Thesis, Horiicirftaral Department Adviser: Prof. Dr. Ibrahim BAKTIR May 2001, 45 Pages In this study, the jojoba (Simmondsia ckinensis L) plants propagated from seed in Antalya-Kumluca ecology were selected in respect to yield, quality, growth and oil content and the selected types were tried to be propagated by cutting and tissue culture techniques. Field works were carried out in the jojoba plantation established in Sancasu village, Kumluca. Mst-propagation works were done in the greenhouse on the field of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Akdeniz. Laboratory works were conducted in the Tissue Culture and Physiology Laboratories at the university. Selected female clones; AA-5, AA-29, AA-42, AA-43, AA-48, AA-52, AA-59, AB- 5, AB-6, AB-8, AB-11, CA-28, DA-45 and DA-50 seemed promising male types were determined for the female ones. The cuttings taken in months intervals year around were rooted in perlite medium. The most suitable time to take cuttings for rooting was shown to be in June and July. 2000 ppm JJBA concentration gave the best result in rooting. Different concentrations and combinations of BAP and NAA were used in vitro propagation of jojoba shoot tips and nodes taken in May, June and July. ffiKEY WORDS: Jojoba, Simmondsia chinensis L., adaptation, propagation, selection, COMMİTEE: Prof. Dr. Ibrahim BAKTIR Assoc.
