Evaluation of Antalya modernization process on architect individual: Özcan Kirmizioğlu example

The most effective thing after the spontaneous natural environment on earth is the physical environment produced by man. To be able to talk about the thinking system underlying architectural activities that cover a large part of the physical environment, firstly, it is possible to talk about the subjects who created it. Throughout history, the architect individual, has remained in the background of architectural products, even ignored. As the concept of modernism started to bring the individual to the forefront, the concept of individual has become spoken in the field of architecture. In Turkey today is still rather small number of architects consisting who are aware of their self individuals. Especially in peripheral cities, architects are not aware of themselves and do not even need to document their work. This situation restricts the production of knowledge in the field of architecture. The approach to the subject in architectural historiography has progressed not through social actors, but through architects who are considered pioneers. For this reason, the collected documents and information were found worth keeping in order to further elaborate the roles of the already accepted names. This situation has led to the disappearance of many documents regarding the lives and professional career of architects, who are considered "ordinary" apart from what is accepted. The architectural structures of the Republic period have been shaped by the Western influence, sometimes with the principles of modern architecture, and sometimes with an understanding that opposes the modern. Consequently, modernism shaped the process. The concept of modernism prioritizes the concept of "individual". However, the world of architecture, ignoring the subjects recorded in Turkey, has created a stark contrast to modern thinking environment. Documenting the period through individuals has been an important method to understand the thinking system that shapes architectural structures. In this direction, the architectural environment of the Republic Period in Antalya, which is a peripheral city, has been evaluated through one of the subjects that created it.
