Abstract (EN)
Snake bite is an important health issue that can produce many consequences from the loss of limb to death. In bite cases, there is a strong inflammation and wound development especially in the bite area. Blunt nose Viper (Macrovipera lebetina) is the largest viper in Turkey. This snake's bite can cause death or serious injury. and it's venom contains hemolytic toxins basically. In the treatment, anti-venoms are used as a standard. However, anti-venom treatment is not effective enough to eliminate the local effects of snake venom and has some risks. Studies by our team have shown that the Anthemis tricolor has strong anti-inflammatory properties. The results obtained predicted that the chloroform extract possessed NfKb, iNOS, NAG-1 and strong antioxidant properties, so that the potential of use would be high in cases where a strong inflammation such as snake bite is induced. The aim of this study was to determine evaluation of anti-inflammatory effect of Anthemis tricolor's chloroform extract against Macrovipera lebetina obtusa venom induced inflammation as in vivo. In order to better understand the pharmacological potential, the same study was performed and compared with the carrageenan. Anti-inflammatory activity will be assessed by snake venom-induced paw edema test in rats. It is found that M. l. obtusa venom caused a volume increase of 70% which is decreased to 20% in all doses of chloroform extract used, the volume increase in the three A. tricolor doses tested against the inflammation induced by carrageen was 1%. in the paw. Anti-inflammatory properties of A. tricolor and inflammatory effects of M. l. obtusa venom in vivo have been documented for the first time in the literature. A. tricolor can be an important source of medications to be used in anti-inflammatory treatment in cases of snake bite.
