Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out on Mentha longifolia (L.) Hudson subsp. typhoides (Briq.) Harley var. typhoides, to obtain the essential oil, determine the essential oil composition, and evaluate some of its biological activities. The essential oil yield was determined as 1.53% v/w (on dry drug). The main compounds detected in the essential oil by GC/FID/MS are piperitone (25.7%), carvone (22.7%), piperitone (22.8%), pulegone (6.8%), isomentone (6.6%). Antibacterial, antibiofilm, and anti-quorum sensing activities were also investigated. When the MIC values were examined, it was observed that the MIC was 20 mg/mL for Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, which are Gram (-) bacteria strains. However, the antibacterial effect was found to be weak. MIC values were also measured against some fungal strains. It was observed to be higher in Candida parapsilosis RSKK 994 (MIC: <0.625 mg/mL), Candida parapsilosis ATCC 22019 (MIC <0.625 mg/mL) strains. The antibiofilm activity of essential oil Mentha longifolia (L.) Hudson subsp. typhoides (Briq.) Harley var. typhoides was found to be 59.53% and showed anti-quorum sensing activity at 80 mg/mL concentration. In this study, as a result of all investigations on the plant, it was understood that these studies are important in guiding future studies. In addition, it has been revealed that this plant, which has both economic and medicinal importance, can be the subject of further research. Therefore, this plant can be cultivated due to its frequent usage in kitchens.
