Abstract (EN)

The study of the narration concept goes back to ancient greece times. The theorists studying this seem to have referred to 'poetika' by Aristotales. Also the structure analysts studying modern narration concept took advantage of the same source. The art of narration has changed forms for all human history. Verbal narration has changed into written form, and written forms have changed into artistic narration through theatre. Theatre, which has existed from ancient greece times to today and has always changed its way of narrating, has taken its modern form through Russian director Stanislavski and Russian author Anton Çehov. Çehov was highly effected by his time. He reflected the changes in Russian society on his works with a realistic language. Çehov, obviously impressed by realism, tells the striking realities of his society with a simple, plain language. Especially he handles rural restrictions and the problem of being unable to keep up with the changing world. In today's cinema, NBC seems to handle same issues in his works. On being studied, his works seem to refer to similar issues creating similar characters. Especially rural restrictions and changing world issues are often used in the works of both artists. In that sense, though ways of narration differ, the content and style are similar. The study has been made through using Seymour Chatman's " story and saying : the narration style in film and fiction ". Taking chatman's narration diagram as reference, both NBC films and Çehov's works also will be studied and compared in terms of story and plot, actions and timing.
