Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the mediating role of religious coping in the relationship between childhood traumas and depression. Method: The research included 366 people; 257 of them were female and 109 of them were male university students. The age environment of these students is 23,51. (Hh: 5.317). In order to measure the variables, Childhood Trauma Scale (CTQ-28), Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), Religious Coping Scale (BDI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were used. Results: When the findings of the study were examined, it was observed that there was a significant relationship between childhood traumas and depression. Contrary to the predictions, a negative significant relationship was found between childhood trauma and positive religious coping, but no significant correlation was found between negative religious coping and childhood trauma. Although there was a negative correlation between positive religious coping and depression in correlation analysis, the same result could not be reached in mediation analysis. When childhood trauma and psychiatric drug use variables were controlled, there was no significant relationship between positive religious coping and depression. Conclusion: The results of the study show that individuals exposed to childhood traumas are less likely to use positive religious coping strategies and depression severity is higher.
