Abstract (EN)

Arabic language education is a multi-dimensional process. The various constituants which form Arabic language teaching programs such as learning/teaching approaches, motivation, communicative situation, learning, attitudes of the teacher, giving value to teaching, suitability of the atmosphere, interest towards target language are closely related to emotional intelligence. The concern of this thesis is how to increase Arabic language students? success by employing emotional intelligence in Arabic language education. In the introduction part, the problem, background to the study, purpose and significance of the study, scope and limitations and methodology are outlined. In the first chapter, the researcher has explained emotional intelligence and its components in a detailed way. In the second chapter, the researcher has metioned emotional intelligence and its components in the context of Arabic language teaching and learning in details. Third chapter includes the model of the research, methodology and data collection procedures. First, emotional intelligence activity including brainstorming and mind-mapping has been implemented. Then, the questionnaire on the students? emotional intelligence bachground has been employed. Last, two model lessons on different topics have been presented and their results have been compared. In the conclusion part, a summary of the study accompanied with implications for Arabic language teaching are stated.The thesis includes three appendices: 1) Sample Mind Maps in emotional intelligence activity. 2) The questionnaires on the students? emotional intelligence background and their analyses. 3) Photocopied units of model lessons.
