Conversation of archaeological textiles: The samples in Turkey

Throughout history,the textile has become an indispensable place in people's lives. The protection of the textiles from organic materials has also become quite difficult. While the protection is undertaken by the museums,the rules on the preservetion of the lost cultural heritage have been set by ICOM (International Council of Museums).Textile materials which are exhibited in the museums and kept in the storage are decided by the conservators to intervene after various analyzes and examinations.This intervention is necessary to protect the textile material or to complete the missing place.As technology has improved, interventions in textiles have also been differentiated. Generally, the missing piece must remain the same without interfering with the damaged surface of the textile, and must be protected by preventing the deterioration of the whole.Intervention to archaeological textiles should be done more differently,the fragility of the surface of the textile which has been under the ground for many years is increasing more. Before the intervention is made, it is absolutely necessary to be known how to remove it from the ground and how it should be treated.In order to be carried out these operations, it is necessary to be prepared suitable environments.Completion of the distortions in the textiles is a very difficult method.The repair and clean of the textile, which carries all the features of the century, is a process that requires great care. The repair and cleaning that are taken place in experienced hands, leaves irreversible damage on the textile surface.This is the most important aspect of a conservator. All the textiles are pieces that illuminate the past of a society. As if how sculptures or paintings are pieces that provide visual pleasure to the spectator in the museum,textile products also carry the folkloric items of that community. Although appearance also shows technically the variation, protecting an object of art should be aspect we will basically consider .
