Abstract (EN)

Sin, the Moon god, who has been one of the gods in an important position since the Sumerian Civilization and has taken different names in different periods, has a special importance in the Mesopotamian pantheon. Although he played an important role especially in Babylonian and Assyrian religion, he was first known as the chief god of the city of Ur, and in later periods he became the most important god of Harran. The fact that archaeological evidence is found in many places such as Soğmatar, Aşağı Yarımca and Sultantepe, especially in the center of Harran, shows that it was in an important position throughout the entire Harran Plain and that it was consecrated. As a matter of fact, as can be understood from the seal impressions, reliefs, stelae, sculptural works and inscriptions belonging to the Sin Cult unearthed through archaeological studies, the existence of a temple in Harran called E.hul.hul and dedicated to the Moon God Sin. seems to be evidence. In addition, the presence of the name of God Sin on the stelae and inscriptions unearthed in Soğmatar, Aşağı Yarımca and Sultantepe indicates that the Sin Cult was preferred as one of the centers in the region, had an active presence in the region for centuries and had an important position in history.
