Abstract (EN)

In this study, five new Schiff bases [N-salicylidene-o-aminophenol (L1H), 3-ethoxysalicylidene-o-aminophenol (L2H), 4-bromosalicylidene-o-aminophenol (L3H), 4-ethylsalicylidene-o-aminophenol (L4H), 4-methoxysalicylidene-o-aminophenol (L5H)] were synthesized by the reactions of aromatic aldehydes (salicylaldehyde, 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde, 4-bromosalicylaldehyde, 4-ethylsalicylaldehyde, 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde) with 2-aminophenol. Using these ligands, 20 different complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) in acetate forms were synthesized in pure EtOH.The structures of ligands and complexes obtained were identified using Elemental Analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis, Magnetic Susceptibility and Thermogravimetric Analysis as techniques. All of the Schiff bases were found to be bidentate ligands involving the imino nitrogen and phenolic oxygen atom in the complexes and metal to ligand ratio were found to be 1:2 for all the complexes. Keywords: Schiff Bases, Imine Compounds, Amines, Transition Metals, Transition Metal Complexes
