The effect of the treatment plant wastewater on the mixture performance of white clover (Trifolium repens) + kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis)

In this study, the effect of different concentrations of effluent of Van/Edremit Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant on the performance of mixture of White Clover and Kentucky Bluegrass was investigated. The experiment was carried out in pots in climatic rooms with randomized parcel design in three replications in Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Agriculture, and Department of Field Crops in 2018. In the study, 100 % pure water (control), 25 % wastewater + 75 % pure water, 50 % wastewater + 50 % pure water and 75 % wastewater + 25 % pure water were applied to determine the effect of wastewater on the development of White Clover and Kentucky Bluegrass mixture. According to the results of the study, the wastewater concentrations of Van Province had no effect on the emergence and withdrawal of White Clover and Kentucky Bluegrass plants. The plant height of the plants increased depending on the amount of wastewater application in each harvesting period. The wet weight of the White Clover increased due to the wastewater applications, whereas the effect of wastewater applications was not observed in the Kentucky Bluegrass. Elemental concentrations of plants and soil after harvest were generally increased. It was determined that there was a decrease in the pH value of the soil samples taken after harvest with waste water applications. As the concentrations of waste water application increased, the EC value of the soil increased. According to these results, positive effects of Van/Edremit Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant effluent on plant growth and development were determined, however, it was concluded that long-term studies are needed for its effects on soil.
