Abstract (EN)
Woodworking is one of the most important decorative arts that have been going on for centuries. Due to the large number of wooden materials, wood-based architecture and decoration techniques have developed considerably in the Eastern Black Sea Region. Examples of wooden decorative art in the region are found quite a lot in both religious architecture and civil architecture. Although Artvin is a small province of the Eastern Black Sea in terms of area and population, it has a rich cultural accumulation. Among these riches, the wooden decorations that we encounter in religious and civil architecture are very important. However, it is not easy to protect wood, which is a natural material, from the destruction that occurs over time. When this is added to the damage caused by humans, the importance of preserving existing works and passing them on to future generations is once again revealed. Unfortunately, wooden ornament elements have come to the brink of extinction in time because they are not given enough importance. Based on this idea, "Wooden Ornaments Detected in Mosques in Artvin City Center and Its Districts" was determined as the thesis topic. After the artifacts identified in the researches have been photographed, an observation slip has been prepared for each of them. Then, decoration drawings of the works were made in the computer environment. Taking into account the interviews with the local people, efforts have been made to explain the works in detail within the scope of the thesis. In our study, the purpose of choosing the wooden ornaments in the mosques in Artvin and its districts was to contribute to the preservation of these works, which have historical, cultural and artistic value, by documenting them.
