Assessment nurses' knowledge about patient's care post cardiac catheterization in Al-Hillah Teaching Hospitals

Coronary artery disorders represent the most frequent kind of cardiovascular disorder. They are responsible for nearly 50% of all fatalities globally that cardiovascular disorder causes. Cardiac catheterization is among the most common operations that may be done on the heart. Before performing cardiac catheterization, the patients need to receive health education. This study is aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge held by the nursing staff regarding the care for patients after cardiac catheterization. This study is a cross-sectional descriptive study. This study was conducted in two Cardiac Catheterisation centres located in Al- Hilla City, Iraq. The sample size is 124. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews between May 2022 and August 2022. The study relied on a questionnaire based on a personal interview consisting of two sections: the first covered primary demographic data, and the second covered nurses' knowledge about the care of patients after cardiac catheterization. The data were evaluated using Descriptive statistical methods (Frequency, Percentage, Means and Standard Deviation) and Chi-Square Test. According to the study, there is no significant relationship between nurses' knowledge and socio-demographic variables (p>0,05). The study revealed that the nurses' knowledge was moderate about cardiac catheterization. Educational programs and additional training courses should be made available to nurses working in cardiac catheterization units to enhance their awareness of patient care and reduce the risk of complications during catheterization.
